Drypoint Printmaking In Action
Where the magic Happens
Nestled on the edge of the picturesque Yorkshire Dales, my studio comes alive with the creation of each delicate drypoint etching. Employing a range of mark making techniques, I meticulously etch intricate designs onto acrylic plates. Some of my older pieces showcase a continuous line drawing style, adding a unique charm to the compositions. The inked-up plates are then pressed onto luxurious Somerset paper, using my trusted traditional printing press. This process transfers the intricately crafted illustrations onto the paper, resulting in exquisite original prints. To add a final touch of artistry, I occasionally add elements such as hand painting, blind embossing or letterpress to the etchings, taking them to another level. In more recent works, I have explored the use of colour during the inking stage, imparting a natural and organic aesthetic that harmonises with the print's inspiration. Each step of my drypoint printmaking journey, from etching to mounting, is carried out with meticulous care, ensuring that every piece is a true reflection of my passion for the art of drypoint printmaking.
